Chevy Trucks
You've heard James Garner, Tommy Lee Jones and James Coburn pitch them on television. You'll never hear Bob Seger's classic "Like a Rock" without thinking about them, and let's not forget they're as American as baseball, hot dogs and apple pie. It can only be Chevrolet, of course, and their line of pickup trucks has some new looks for the 2005 model year. |

Chevy Colorado The first change happens with the departure of the venerable S-10 midsize pickup and the arrival of Chevy's new Colorado. Aside from an actual name that brings to mind rugged imagery, the Colorado features clean, angular lines that seem to be a major change from recent Chevy designs. On top of it all, the Colorado also has an impressive array of features and options. |
|
Extended and crew cab options offer seating for up to six passengers and is part of what gives the Colorado 15 distinct models from which to choose. An innovation that sets the Colorado apart from its competition is its unique tailgate design, which is removable and lockable and can be set at two different positions - 55 degrees and 89 degrees. In addition, two-tier loading and eight standard tie-downs gives you extra versatility for hauling different cargo in a box that is also the deepest in its class.
One of the available powerplants for the Colorado is the Vortec 3500 I-5 engine that generates the horsepower of a V6 with the fuel efficiency of a four-cylinder. Among the rather clever features of this engine are a starter lockout bump that allows the engine to start on one quick key turn, aircraft-grade heat-treated aluminum engine blocks and platinum-tipped spark plugs rated to last 100,000 miles. Chevy Avalanche
The Chevy Avalanche is arguably one of the most unique vehicles in the marketplace today. Is it a truck? Is it an SUV? The Avalanche can stake a claim to either segment, thanks to the GM-exclusive Midgate. The Midgate allows the Avalanche to go from a six-passenger SUV with a 5' 3" cargo box to a three-passenger full-size pickup with an 8' 1" cargo box in less than a minute. But, the surprises don't end there - |

Lockable storage compartments on the side of the cargo box can hold up to 1.7 cubic feet of small items and even serve as a cooler. Chevy was even kind of enough to place small holes at the bottoms to allow melting ice to drain. The Avalanche shares the two-tier loading system with the Colorado, but has another distinctive feature in the cargo box. A clever lighting system, with a light on the driver side, illuminates both the cargo box and driver-side to-box storage area.
All trim levels of the Avalanche come standard with a Vortec V8. The optional Big Block Vortec 8100 cranks out 320 horsepower and 440 lb.-ft. of torque. All Vortec V8s feature an ignition coil for each cylinder to precisely deliver a high-energy spark for lower emissions and higher efficiency, as well as sequential fuel injection (SFI) for reliable starting in hot or cold weather. A high-strength crankshaft, deep-skirt engine block, electronic throttle control and a powertrain control module all combine to give the Avalanche a smooth, steady ride and make for a reliable, low-maintenance engine. Chevy Silverado Chevy's venerable Silverado also got a facelift for 2005, along with the same impressive selection of standard features and options its cousins have. The base Silverado comes with a Vortec 4300 V6, Four-wheel ABS with Dynamic Rear Proportioning, bullet 17-inch bright chrome wheels, cruise control, dual cargo-area lamps, air conditioning with dual-zone temperature controls and PASSlock theft-deterrent system. |
|
For some added power, the various Vortec V8 choices (six in all) offer up to 345 horsepower and an available Duramax diesel engine serves up 310 horsepower and a whopping 605 lb.-ft. of torque. Other innovations on the Silverado include the QUADRASTEER four-wheel steering system and the first-ever full-size hybrid technology pickup. The Silverado hybrid comes with a 8-year/100,000-mile warranty and while limited in quantity and availability, it's sure to be a future success for Chevrolet. More... |
| Chevy SSR Last, but not least, is the Chevy SSR, although it may be more sports car than true truck. Chevrolet calls SSR the "world's first convertible sport pickup truck." Based on the chassis of the TrailBlazer SUV, the 2-seat Chevy SSR is essentially a rear-wheel-drive regular-cab compact pickup with a metal top that powers into a well behind the seats. The retro styling of the body-on-frame Chevy SSR is patterned after Chevy's 1947-53 pickup trucks. |

A big power boost and first-time availability of a manual transmission highlight 2005 changes for this limited-edition convertible pickup. The newly muscled-up 2005 Chevy SSR exchanges a 300-hp 5.3-liter V8 for a 390-hp 6.0 V8. The '05 also gets a 6-speed manual transmission as an option to a 4-speed automatic. SSR continues with standard antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, traction control, 19-inch front wheels, and 20-inch rears. Also included is a rigid tonneau covering a cargo bed of about 5x3 ft. Among new options are a cockpit wind blocker and auxiliary-gauge package. Trailer-towing capacity is 2500 lb. More... |
